After releasing 4mix-tapes between 2008and 2010and being signed to BigMoney Entertainment in August2009, Iryn Namubiru released her debut album, OrangeFriday inDecember 2009.It quickly became a commercial success,peaking at number #1 on the Ugandan Billboard100 and being certified Gold by the Production Industry AssociationOfUganda (PIAU)1a month after its release.She became the 1st artist to have 6singles on theSongboard Hot200 at the same time.Her 1stsingle,"Our Loving",reached number#1 on theSongboardHot Rap Songs chart,making Namubiru the 1st female artist to top the chart unaccompanied since JulianaKanyomozi accomplished it with WorkedIt in2006.She also became the 1st female artist to be showcased on NTV\\\'sAnnual Hottest MC List.Namubiru was named the2010 Rising Star bySongboard.
The father of Iryn Namubiru was a severe drug addicted with a long history of violence.At one point,he set fire to the family\\\'s house with a failed attempt to kill Namubiru\\\'s mother.Those early struggles, Namubiru has said,helped fuel her drive to rise above the life her parents knew."I've always had this female empowerment thing in the back of my mind,"she toldFlashy magazine,"because I wanted my mother to be stronger,and she couldn\\\'t be.I thought,'If I'm successful,I can change her life.'"
To reach that point,however,the young Iryn Namubiru developed personas for herself that would allow her to be a"newer person."An early incarnation was someone she called"Meeky,"then came"Namibee Dolly,"before finally settling on Iryn Namubiru."Fantasy was my reality,"she has said. Determined to make it in the entertainment industry, Iryn Namubiru took on backup singing roles for local Kampala City singers.Immediately,she began writing her own material.She was eventually discovered bySexy Money CEO Lohan,who came across Namubiru\\\'s MySpice page,loved what he heard,and immediately signed her to his group.
That connection led Iryn Namubiru to Eminem,who collaborated with her on a series of sexy songs,the 1st of which,Ghetto isGood,was released inJune2009.The production,and subsequent mixed tapes,showcased Namubiru\\\'s female swagger and out front technique.
By mid2011,considerable anticipation had built up around Namubiru\\\'s much discussed,much covered debut single,which was scheduled for release that fall.InJuly of that year, Iryn Namubiru released her 1st single,"Hot Temper." 2 months later she wonSexy Female Artist at the yearlyPAM Show.
